The UK people are holding their breath as ballot papers in the Scottish independence referendum are being counted.
The final results are expected after 6 am GMT.
In the historical referendum, the Scottish voters were asked to answer "Yes" or "No" to only one referendum question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?"
The final turnout is not clear yet. However, Thursday was widely believed to be the busiest day in the Scottish and the whole UK election history as about 97 percent of the electorate registered to vote.
Voters cast their ballot at 5,579 polling stations from 7 am till 10 pm on Thursday.
The ballot could see the end of the 307-year-old union between Scotland and England.
For the first time 16 and 17-year-olds across Scotland were able to vote.
Figures show there were 789,024 postal vote applications, the largest volume of registration for postal votes in the history of Scotland.
While the final weeks have witnessed big momentum in the independence campaign, the UK three main parties have all pledged to give Scotland more powers if the its voter choose to stay within the UK union.
However, pro-independence nationalists dismiss the promise, insisting only a Yes vote will give their country powers it needs.
