Indonesia's anti-graft court has sentenced a former senior health ministry official to five years in jail for her involvement in an embezzlement scandal that cost the state around $1.2 million in losses.
Ratna Dewi Umar was found guilty Monday of marking up the cost of medical equipment purchased in 2007 in preparation for the possible outbreak of the H5N1 bird flu virus.
In its verdict, the five-judge panel of the Corruption Court also ordered her to pay a fine of $45,000 or face an additional three years in prison.
