Oman pledged $500 million to Egypt, Sultanate’s Prime Minister announced in a speech at the opening session of Egypt's Economic Development Conference on Friday.

Half of the sum will be in the form of financial aid, and the other half in the form of investments, said Yahia bin Mahfouz Al Manthiry.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait also pledged $12 billion in financial aid and investments to Egypt at the conference.

Gulf countries had offered $23 billion in financial aid to Egypt since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
