A long-awaited cap on Egypt's public sector wages came into effect on Wednesday, 12 September, the minister of legal and parliamentary affairs has said.
Mohamed Mahsoub announced the move via his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning. He gave no further details on the upper pay limit.
The decision came after a long series of campaigns by social activists predating last year's uprising.
Egypt's first post-Mubarak parliament approved a LE50,000 wage cap earlier in 2012, before the lower house of the assembly was dissolved in mid-June.
The minimum wage for public sector workers is currently LE700 ($115) per month.
