The number of Egyptians living inside Egypt reaches 85 million, an increase of one million in six months, state statistics body says

Egypt’s population increased by one million in the period between March and August 2013 to reach 85 million, state statistics body CAPMAS reported on Monday.

An additional eight million Egyptians are living abroad, bringing the total to 93 million.

The population is 51.1 percent male, 48.9 percent female.

Around 60 percent of Egypt’s population is under the age of 30.

Around 8.9 million people live in Cairo, which has the highest population density in the country at 47,097 people per square kilometre.

South Sinai is the least populated province, with 162,000 Egyptians living at a density of 9.7 people per square kilometre.
