The government is preparing to oblige all ministries to use diesel cars and energy efficient appliances to save electricity, Finance Minister Hany Qadry told Al-Mal GTM Money and Finance conference on Monday.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has been calling on citizens to ration their use of energy to ease the energy crisis.

Earlier this month, the cabinet approved a law regulating investment in renewable energy. The government has also allowed industries to import and use coal as fuel.

Egypt has seen electricity blackouts become increasing recurrent since summer 2008. The energy crisis soared following the popular uprising in 2011 as gas production was hindered.
