Egypt sells LE5.5 billion in treasury bills

Yields continue to rise as the central bank makes another batch of short-term debt sales

Egypt's central bank sold LE5.5 billion in domestic treasury bills on Thursday, the same amount it had offered, the Ministry of Finance said.

The central bank sold LE2 billion of 182-day T-bills at an average yield of 13.131 per cent, up from 13.071 per cent at Tuesday's auction. The ministry's website said that the auction was covered 1.96 times.

It also sold LE3.5 billion of 364-day T-bills at an average yield of 13.854 per cent, up from 13.720 per cent at the last issue on 18 October. The ministry said the auction was covered 2.33 times.

The central bank sells T-bills on behalf of the Finance Ministry.
