The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced Wednesday that banks will be granted a holiday on Sunday 8 January on occasion of eastern Christmas.
Eastern Christmas, which is celebrated on 7 January of each year, coincides with a Saturday which is already a day off. Accordingly, CBE decided to give a substitute the day after. For the past few years, Eastern Christmas has been a national holiday in Egypt.
The stock market will also be shutdown on Sunday.
