Egypt, Sudan discuss boosting transport cooperation

Egyptian Transport Minister Hesham Arafat discussed with his Sudanese counterpart Ibrahim Yousif on Tuesday ways of fostering bilateral cooperation in the transport domains.

The discussion came during a ministerial meeting ahead of the Egyptian-Sudanese presidential committee, which was held at the premises of the Ministry of Transport in Cairo.

The meeting tackled the importance of linking connections between the two countries through railways. They also agreed on holding a joint technical committee in Khartoum.

The meeting also touched on training cooperation, as Arafat expressed his readiness for training Sudanese cadres in various railway programs.

The Egyptian and Sudanese officials discussed various means of holding the joint technical committee on land transport, according to a protocol signed between the both countries. The committee is set to remove all obstacles in order to facilitate bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, they also stressed the importance of cooperation in the maritime transport industry.

The second week of September will witness convocation of the joint technical committee in the field of maritime transport and river navigation.
