Egypt’s supply ministry said on Monday it has strategic rice reserves to last six months after its latest purchase.

Egypt has bought 114,000 tonnes of rice in its latest buying tender that has drawn proposals from China, India and Vietnam, the ministry said in a statement.

The purchase is expected to be delivered in June, it added.

Last year, Egypt started increasing its imports of rice to save water and increase stocks.
