Egypt's core inflation eased to 8.1 percent year-on-year in April from 8.9 percent in March, the Central Bank said Thursday.

Core inflation impacts volatile items such as food.

Earlier on Thursday, official statistics agency CAPMAS said Egypt’s annual urban consumer price inflation dropped to 13.0 percent in April from 14.2 percent in March.

A tough economic reform programme Egypt introduced included deep subsidy cuts and steep currency devaluation which have led to price hikes on transport, food and energy.
