Egypt’s readymade garment factories have reduced their production output to 50% for winter garments compared to last year due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, chairman of Egypt’s readymade garments chamber Mohamed Abdel-Salam said on Tuesday.
Abdel-Salam told Cairo-based Masrawy that the factories are reducing their output due to expectations that demand will be low for winter clothes this season, as was the case with summer clothes earlier this year.
Amr Hassan, the head of garments sector at the Cairo chamber of commerce, said in media statements earlier that the decline in sales was due to the curfew imposed by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus, which decreased demand and forced shops to close early.
“The prices for winter garments this year will be the same as last year,” Abdel-Salam added.
