Egypt’s food industries' exports have increased by 10 percent in 2019 reaching $3.5 billion from $3 billion in 2018, the Food Industries Export Council announced on Wednesday.
The council also added that Egypt’s food exports to Arab countries have reached $1.9 billion in 2019 from $1.7 billion in 2018, showing a growth of 13 percent.
As for Egypt’s food exports to Europe, they have also witnessed an increase of $458 million from the $417 million in 2018, according to the council’s data.
Egypt’s food exports to the US have increased to $203 million in 2019 from the $159 million in 2018, showing an increase of 27 percent.
The country’s food exports to the non-Arab African countries also rose to $413 million in 2019 from $388 million in 2018, a growth of six percent.
According to the council's data, Saudi Arabia topped all destination countries for Egypt’s food industries' exports ($337 million), followed by Libya ($224 million), and Yemen ($203 million).
The US imported at $203 million, followed by Jordan ($189 million), UAE ($146 million), Algeria ($115 million), Morocco ($104 million), Iraq ($99 million), Palestine ($99 million), Italy ($96 million), Kenya ($89 million), Lebanon ($87 million), Kuwait ($83 million), while Germany came last at $77 million.
Egypt's exports increased in the year of 2019 by 4.1 percent to record $30.5 billion from the $29.3 billion in 2018, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced in November.
The country’s non-petroleum exports also rose in 2019 by 3.9 percent to reach $25.5 billion from the $24.6 billion in 2018.
Final products accounted for 43.2 percent of Egypt's exports in 2019, totaling $13.19 billion, according to CAPMAS.
