Internet users in Egypt reach 31 million

Internet penetration reaches 35.6 per cent in Egypt, and Facebook is the most popular website

The number of internet users in Egypt reached 31.2 million in June 2012, a 21 per cent growth on June 2011, the latest data from Egypt's official statistical agency, CAPMAS, indicated on Monday.

This brings internet penetration to 35.6 per cent in mid 2012, up from 26.4 per cent a year earlier.

The social networking utility Facebook is the most popular website in Egypt, according to CAPMAS. It boasted 12.17 million users in December 2012, versus 9.4 million a year earlier and 4.2 million in 2010.
