The tourism sector in Dubai has seen positive growth in 2010 despite the effect of the economic downturn, Al-Bayan Al-Emarateyya reported, citing data released by Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.
Annual hotel revenues in the emirate rose 6% during 1H2010 to $1.87 billion, while total hotel guests reached 4.2 million over the same period, compared with 3.9 million during 1H2009, the paper reported. Total hotel establishments in the emirate also grew, reaching 530 establishments that offer 67,370 hotel rooms. The latter saw an annual growth of 16% when compared to a total of 58,190 rooms during 1H2009. According to a report by STR Global, occupancy rates in Dubai stood at 69% during 1H2010, up 8.3% compared with the same period during 2009.
