US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh on Friday morning to attend the three-day economic conference scheduled to start on Friday, state media reported.

Kerry is to meet Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to discuss the fight against the Islamic State militant group, AFP reported.

According to AFP, the top US diplomat will also meet Jordan's King Abdullah II and Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.

Around 2,000 delegates from 112 nations will attend the conference, including 30 heads of state and executives of multinational companies.

Egypt’s government hopes the event will kickstart the country’s ailing economy by securing international investment.

El-Sisi arrived in the South Sinai resort on Thursday afternoon.
