الدنيا بدل , يوم عسل و يوم بصل
El donya badal, yom asal we yom basal
Translation: Life alternates, one day of honey, one day of onion.
Meaning: Just as you take the good times, you have to accept the bad ones. This sayingis one of a genre of proverbs that caution people that good fortune don’t last. The fact that honey (asal in Arabic) rhymes with onion (basal in Arabic) enhances the tonality of this saying, which mostly went out of circulation.
