الغجرية ست جيرانها

El ghagariya sett giranha

Translation: The loudest lady is queen of the neighbourhood.

Meaning: An irreverent with more colourful imagery than the English equivalent of the “squeaky wheel gets the grease”. The proverb, occasionally in use by old timers, recalls busy neighbourhoods, where the female heads of the family run the affairs of their street while the husbands are out to work. And the loudest, the bossiest (gypsy-like) of them all is invariably feared and respected.
