Electoral commission announces results of second round of parliamentary elections

The head of the Supreme Electoral Commission Abdel Moez Ibrahim declared on Saturday the results of Egypt’s second round of parliamentary elections.  

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice list took the highest share of the votes with 4,077,244, followed by the Salafist Nour Party list with 3,216,430. Of the remaining electoral lists, the liberal Wafd won 1,077, 244 votes, the Egyptian Bloc won 785,084 and the moderate Islamist Wasat Party gained 368,375. 

The second phase of Egypt’s three-stage elections for the lower legislative house (the People's Assembly) covers nine governorates, including Giza, Beni Suef, Menoufiya, Sharqiya, Ismaliya, Suez, Beheira, Sohag and Aswan.

Voter turnout was 43 per cent, down from 52 in the first round.
