Presidential hopeful Amr Moussa said in a meeting Tuesday that it is a "misconception" to describe him as a Mubarak regime figure simply because he served as the ousted president's foreign minister for ten years. Speaking to representatives from political parties and activist groups, the former minister said this can be cleared up by communicating with the people who consider him to be so.
Moussa also added that the country sought stability, which will be attained after electing the president and drafting the new constitution.
Among those present were representatives from the liberal Ghad El-Thawra Party and the Egyptian Democratic Institute.
During the meeting, Moussa said he shared a similar political vision with presidential hopeful and head of the Ghad El-Thawra Party Ayman Nour, whom Moussa described as a "fighter and patriot."
Moussa is a prominent politician and career diplomat, who has widespread recognition in Egypt and is known throughout the region and abroad.
Moussa served as foreign minister from 1991 to 2001 under Hosni Mubarak and was elected secretary-general of the Arab League in 2001, a position he held until 2011.
Presidential elections will take place on 23 and 24 May, and the president will be named on 21 June after a runoff voting round on 16 and 17 June.
