The spokesperson of Salafist El-Nour Party, Nader Bakar, has said his party is "committed" to its decision to postpone the announcement of which presidential candidate it will support until the official candidacy registration period ends.

"The closest candidate to obtain our support is the one who has an Islamic programme," Bakar said in a press statement Friday evening. 

"The party has conducted meetings with most candidates to inquire about their programmes, but we have not held meetings with those who have announced they will be running in the [last] few passing days," Bakar added.

Saturday marks the opening date for candidates to file official candidacy applications. The registration period will remain open until 8 April, while the elections are scheduled to be held 23-24 May with results announced 21 June, according to the Higher Presidential Elections Commission.
