A Spanish football fan was found murdered nearly a month after going missing in the small town of Makeyevka in the Donetsk region, local media reported on Saturday.

Local police had launched a search for the 46-year-old man - who was holidaying in the region ahead of Euro 2012 - after staff at the hotel he was staying in in Makeyevka reported him missing.

According to reports police have detained three men suspected of murdering him.

Holders Spain are based in Poland and play their first match of the tournament on Sunday in Gdansk.
