France's Olympic medal hopes suffered another blow on Wednesday when two-time world taekwondo champion Gwladys Epangue was forced to pull out of the London Games due to injury.
The 28-year-old Epangue, the world champion in 2009 and 2011 who won Olympic bronze in Beijing four years ago, had been targeting gold in the +67 kg category in London.
But a back injury, which doctors have blamed on the fact she may have suffered a form of tuberculosis as a child -- thus weakening some of the bones in her spinal column -- has put paid to her hopes.
Last week French triple jumper Teddy Tamgho, the European champion and indoor record-holder, confirmed that injury had ended his dream of competing at the Games.
