After becoming the first team to be eliminated from the 2013 African Cup of Nations, Algeria players have asked supporters to forgive them for failing to reach the quarterfinals.

The North African team's 2-0 defeat to Togo on Saturday sealed their fate.

"I ask our fans to forgive us for losing and being eliminated from the tournament," Algeria captain Medhi Lacen told Algeria's News Agency.

"I promise Algeria fans we will win the coming game against Ivory Coast," he added.

"This team's players have a great future as they still young and can achieve more in future tournaments."

"I hope supporters stop thinking about the African Cup of Nations and concentrate on the 2014 World Cup qualifiers," midfielder Rafik Halliche said.
