Egypt's star weightlifter Mohamed Ihab is aiming for the podium when he starts competing in the men's 77 kg event on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old lifter won the silver medal in the World Championships in Almaty 2014 in the 69kg event.

A year later he moved up to the 77 kg category and managed to win the bronze medal in the 2015 World Championships held in Houston, totalling 363kg.

"We fight for our dreams and accept the tough training to achieve our targets in Rio 2016. I am well prepared to claim a medal at the Olympics," Ihab said before the prestigious tournament.

In the women's contest, Sara Samir will be competing in the 69 kg event and is a possible candidate for a medal.

Swimmer Mohamed Khaled Hussein will participate to the 200m individual medley, though with little chance of going past the first round.

Shooter Sami Abdel-Fattah will start his campaign in the 50m pistol shooting, hoping to advance to the next stage.
