Egyptian rower Abdel-Khaleq El-Banna has booked a place in the single sculls final B of the contest after placing fifth in the semi-final A/B 1 with 7:13.55 on Friday.
El-Banna failed to finish in the first three spots of the semi-final A/B; he was fourth at 500m and 1000m but finished fifth in at the end of the 1500m event.
The leading three have qualified for the final A while the remaining contenders will go to the final B.
The 28-year-old El-Banna will compete in the single sculls final B event on Saturday.
Ali Ibrahim is Egypt's best ever rower at the Olympics, coming 8th in Atlanta 1996.
