Sherif Arafa's El-Gezira II (The Island II) is leading the pack of Egyptian films released for the Eid Al-Adha holiday earlier this month, pulling in a whopping LE13 million so far.
El-Gezira II, the sequel to the 2007 production of the same name, stars Ahmed El-Saqqa, Hend Sabry and the late Khaled Saleh, who died only days before the film's release following complications from heart surgery.
Egyptian Eid celebrations are always tied with the cinema, with a host of films released for the holidays. This year's Eid Al-Adha saw eight releases in cinemas nationwide on 1 October.
Following El-Gezira II in ticket sales are Wahed Saidy (A Southern Man), Omar and Salwa and Hamaty Bethebeny (My Mother-in-law Loves Me), drawing LE6 million, LE5 million and LE2 million, respectively.
