Renowned Lebanese musician Marcel Khalife was honoured Thursday at Al-Ahram's premises during a press conference organised ahead of his two performances in Egypt this weekend.

Khalife, along with his two sons Rami and Bachar, will perform in Cairo and Alexandria on 24 and 25 October, respectively.

Chairman of Al-Ahram Ahmed El-Naggar and editor-in-chief Mohamed Abdel-Hady presented the award to Khalife, welcoming the musical giant to Egypt after a six-year hiatus.

During the press conference, El-Naggar told audiences that it was Khalife who transported the words of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish to large audiences.

"He is the voice of humanity," El-Naggar told the crowd.

Meanwhile, Abdel-Hady said: "Marcel Khalife represents hope that the Palestinian issue will live on … he is also a pioneer in the fight against intellectual terrorism."

Khalife did not take questions from the audience; instead, he recited a poem about hope and struggle.

Egyptian singer Mohamed Mohsen, who will be joining the trio on stage, was among the attendees at the press conference.

The concerts are organised by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's Arts Centre. This will be the first time for Marcel, Rami and Bachar Khalife to perform as the newly established Khalife Trio, introducing their family project to Egyptian audiences.
