Veteran Egyptian filmmaker Daoud Abdel-Sayed's latest feature, Out of the Ordinary, will premiere at the 11th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) scheduled to run in December.

The film will compete in the Muhr Feature Awards competition, which was established in 2006 to foster and reward artistic excellence from the Arab World.

Out of the Ordinary stars Khaled Aboul-Naga, Naglaa Badr, Mahmoud El-Guindy, Abbas Aboul-Hassan, Mariam Tamir, Hassan Kami and renowned actor Ahmed Kamal.

This is the second collaboration between Abdel-Sayed and Aboul-Naga, who worked together on A Citizen, a Detective and a Thief (2001). Meanwhile, Kamal starred in a number of Abdel-Sayed's previous pictures, including his 2010 feature Messages from The Sea.

The film follows Yehia who seeks refuge in a seaside house after taking a forced vacation from his regular life. The guesthouse is occupied by a clan of odd characters. As Yehia inches closer to the owner and her young daughter, he believes he stumbled upon the magic he has long been searching for.

The story has been dubbed "untraditional" and "hasn't been introduced in Egyptian or Arab cinema" by the producers at New Century.

Abdel-Sayed graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema in Egypt in 1967. He worked as an assistant director on the set of The Land (Al-Ard) by the legendary Youssef Chahine.

He is credited for pioneering "new realism," a school of thought in Egyptian cinema that introduced action to the melodramatic movement of the 1960-70s.

Last year, three of his films were chosen among DIFF’s list of the 100 Most Important Arab Films: Kit Kat (1991), Land of Fear (1999) and Messages from the Sea (2010).
