On Thursday, 16 April, Zawya will screen two films: the feature fiction The Sea is Behind, followed by the documentary The Council

The screenings are part of the ongoing AFAC Film Week, an event which kicked off 16 April and will continue until 22 April. The screenings take place at Zawya, Odeon Cinema, 4 Abdel-Hamid Said Street, off Talaat Harb Street, Downtown, Cairo. The screenings are to be followed with a Q&A with the directors or producers.

Thursday, 16 April, films:

The Sea is Behind (Al-Bahr Min Ouaraikom) is a feature drama and third film from Morrocan director Hisham Larsi. The cast comprises of Malek Akhmiss (as Tarik), Hassan Badida (Daoud), Fairouz Amiri (Dalenda), and Yassine Sekkal (Mikhi), among others.

Officially released in December 2014, the film was screened in the Panorama section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival (2015) and Dubai International Film Festival (2014) where it was nominated for the Muhr Award for Best Fiction Feature.

According to information provided by the Berlinale website, The Sea Behind "tells us, in surreally beautiful black-and-white images, about traditions and trance, intolerance and violence, friendship and flesh and blood. And about animal love – albeit possibly inappropriate. Aided by raucous Moroccan rock music, Lasri composes a David Lynch-like state of intoxication to produce a truly modern Maghrebi cinematic experience."

The screening will begin at 6.30pm at Zawya. Producer Lamia Chraibi will be in attendance.

The screening will begin at 9.30pm and the director will be in attendance.
