On the occasion of documentary film month, the French Institute in Cairo will screen three films on Yemen, Libya and Syria between 8-10 November.

The screenings are organised in collaboration with Cimatheque Alternative Film Centre, and comprise: The Mulberry House (Sara Ishaq, 2013), The Shebabs of Yarmouk (Axel Salvatori-Sinz, 2013) and Libya: An Impossible Nation-state? (Anne Poiret, 2014).

The programme will also include a special screening evening of short films produced by Ateliers Varan workshop last July.  

Based in Paris, Ateliers Varan is an association of filmmakers that runs documentary making courses in France and workshops around the world. Since its founding in 1981 by Jean Rouch, they have held their workshops in over 20 countries.

8 November, 7pm: The Mulberry House
9 November, 7pm: The Shebabs of Yarmouk
10 November, 6pm: Libya: An Impossible Nation-State? and at 8 pm, short films produced during Ateliers Varan's workshop
