The musicians of the Nile Project will perform in Belgium and the UK between 15 and 19 June.
Founded and managed by the Egyptian ethnomusicologist Mina Girgis, the Nile Project brings together artists from several Nile basin countries and features their explorations of instruments, languages, scales and rhythms.
Using music as its primary denominator, the project becomes one of the tightest cross-cultural collaborations in music. The group serves as a ground for professional musicians performing or inspired by music of their home countries, a knowledge think-tank which combines music with education and tells stories inspired by the fertile basin.
According to organisers, the project’s mission is to inspire, inform and empower Nile citizens to collaboratively cultivate the sustainability of their shared ecosystem.
In its fourth year, the Nile Project performed in numerous locations along the Nile River and carried their knowledge outside the region, performing and giving workshops overseas in the USA.
The European tour will include musicians from Egypt, Sudan, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Eritrea.
They will perform and give panels in Brussels on 15 and 16 June, followed by two concerts in UK, on 18 and 19 June.
