The Contents of the Grocery Bag is a multimedia exhibit of installations by Mohammed Allam held at the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC) starting 21 September.

The exhibit includes works based on an extensive collection of materials ranging from video, text and sound that artist Allam collected over two years between Cairo and time spent in Tokyo, Japan.

The project includes dance choreographes by Mako Kubeck, Kae Kubo and Mona Gamil.

Allam also used text from a series of short stories by Hassan El-Halwagy on themes of repetition and the possiblility of deviating from the familiar.

Running through all the work is the artist's interest in "unscripted and experimental interactions between different disciplines that do not usually take place in the same space and at the same time," according to the exhibition's statement.

Allam is a visual artist and director of Medrar for Contemporary Art, which he co-founded with Dia Hamed in 2005. He is the curator of the annual collective visual art exhibition and competition Roznama, and the Cairo Video Festival.

His often experimental work spans different media, touching satirically on social and political contexts.
