Under the theme of "A Closer Look," Cairo’s El-Nahda Association for Scientific & Cultural Renaissance (Cairo Jesuits) will celebrate Lebanese cinema with four days of film screenings between 12 and 15 October.

The Lebanese Film Days is organised in collaboration with Lekol El-Nas film club in Lebanon, and Saint Joseph University in Beirut.

According to Al-Ahram Arabic citing Sameh Samy, director of El-Nadha Association, the programme will bring nine films ranging between feature films, documentaries and shorts.

Some of Lebanon’s top filmmakers will be featured, including Maroun Baghdady, Jean Chamoun, Borhan Alweya, Randa El-Shahhal and Joselyn Saab.

Critic Hassan Shaarawy has said, “Egyptian society is barely familiar with Lebanese cinema, and only knows it through film festivals, despite Lebanon's ranking as an important part of Arab cinema, and its recognition recently on an international scale for work dating back to the 1970s.”

The events will also feature a series of workshops including one on archiving and restoring films, led by Naga Al-Ashqar, director of Lekol El-Nas film club.

Another workshop focuses on the history of Lebanese cinema and its development, led by director Hady Zakak, a professor at Saint Joseph University.

In addition, a short film workshop will be led by Flavia Bichara.

The workshops will be held at 4pm, while the daily film screenings start at 6pm, all taking place at El-Nahda Association.
