The 8th edition of the Hakawy International Arts Festival for Children, the brainchild of the festival's president and artistic director Mohamed El-Ghawy, will kick off on 8 March and continue until 13 March.

Most of the events will take place at the Hanager Arts Centre and the neighboring Higher Council of Culture. Two plays will also be performed at the Children Cancer Hospital.

Organised by AFCA for Arts and Culture, the festival aims at bringing arts to children through theatre and other activities.

Throughout the years, the festival brought theatre plays from 15 countries and four continents to the children of Cairo.

This year, Hakawy will host plays from the UK, Holland, France and the USA alongside several events by the Egyptian storytellers, the Bibliothequebus, a film screening, seminars and workshops.

Apart of theatre, this year the festival introduces a few new components, including a film screening, a mime workshop for children, seminars for parents and a seminar "Culture is a Field of Work" for university students.
