After a three-year hiatus, Teatro Independent presents The Metamorphosis (Hedoou Nesby), an interactive theatre experience which opens on 14 April at an old abandoned downtown cinema.

The Metamorphosis is written and directed by Omar El-Moutaz Bel’ah, founder of Teatro Independent Theatre Company and Osiris Art Productions and Training.

El-Moutaz Bel’ah is also the scenographer of the piece, while Hazem Header is behind the choreography, and the cast includes Sarah Khalil, Ahmed El-Sharkawy and Nourhan Saleh.

The performance was developed with the support of Mahatat for Contemporary Arts.

The existential story centres on an estranged family. The audience will participate in a performance recalling Franz Kafka’s book of the same name, but the piece is more an extension to the book than an adaptation.

The event description refers to a mysterious dystopia where “man has become more savage, violent, aggressive, consumptive, and possessive than ever before, to the point where he loses control over himself, paving the path for a soul devouring metamorphosis that develops creatures with inhumane features.”

Teatro Independent’s last production was No Exit, which was staged at the French Institute in Cairo and Falaki Theatre in 2013.

Programme:
Performances on 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 April. Doors open 7.30pm and performance starts at 8.20pm
8 Emad Eddin St., Downtown, Cairo
