A collaboration between Mahatat and Megawra, Face to Face project will culminate in a circus show held at the historic Gayer Anderson Museum in Old Cairo on 22 December.
Titled "Universe Travel Inc.," the circus theatre performance will celebrate the conclusion of the Face to Face learning project that Mahatat launched this year for emerging street artists.
“Chaos, flight, lights, trip in time and space, machine, is it a plane? Is it a train? Is it a bike? It’s Universe Travel Inc.,” the event's promotion reads.
The multidisciplinary learning programme served as an incubator for artists interested in public space performances. Through a series of specialised workshops, Mahatat supports them with artistic direction, and technical and managerial skills so that they can realise their street art project.
The Gayer Anderson Museum is a restored 17th century house that stands as a rare example of Islamic domestic architecture, showcasing art pieces and artifacts from the personal collections of it's previous owners.
Mahatat is a Cairo-based initiative for art in public space. Megawra: The Built Environment Collective is an Egyptian non-profit organisation that seeks to strengthen the sense of community between practitioners, academics, and students of architecture and urbanism.
Programme:
Saturday, 22 December, from 3pm to 5pm
Gayer Anderson Museum, Ahmed Ibn Tulun Street, El-Sayeda Zeinab, Old Cairo
