Countdown to the 11th Cairo International Jazz Festival

The 11th edition of the Cairo International Jazz Festival will be held from 10 to 12 October

The three-day Cairo International Jazz Festival (CJF) will take place at the Tahrir Cultural Centre, Ewart Hall and garden (AUC Tahrir campus) and will expand its concerts to other venues such as the Cairo Jazz Club, Darb 1718 and NWT (Maadi villa 19).

The festival's line-up includes bands from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hungary, Morocco, Austria, Portugal, Luxembourg and Italy.

In addition to the concerts, the festival will feature concerts, educational activities, music workshops, jam sessions, a photo contest and an Open Mic.

The opening ceremony will take place at Ewart Hall (AUC) on Thursday 10 October, followed by a concert by Circle of Four featuring Amena El Abd (Egypt), an Egyptian band performing jazz standards. The same evening will also include Wust El-Balad (Egypt), Drums United and Artvark Saxophone Quartet ft All-Stars Egyptian Percussionists (NL/EG).

The following two days will feature other Egyptian (The Gypsy Jazz Project, Sherif Mostafa Group, etc) and international bands: Mario Laginha Trio (Portugal), Fischermann’s Orchestra (Switzerland), JU (Hungary), Birds against Hurricanes (Austria), Jeff Herr corporation (Luxembourg), among others.

Saturday 12 October will see special activities tailored for the younger audience, part of the festival's Jazzinino “Jazz for Kids Workshop” segment.

Founded by Egyptian musician Amro Salah in 2009, throughout the years the Cairo Jazz Festival has become a platform for many musicians representing jazz and other music genres.
