The upcoming edition of the Aswan International Women Film Festival, which will take place between 10 and 15 February, will screen three films which received nods for the 92nd Oscars.
The films include Syrian The Cave which is nominated in the Documentary Feature category, Honeyland competing in the Best Documentary Feature, and Daughter, nominated in the Oscars' Short Animated Film category.

The Cave is directed by Feras Fayyad, who is also the film’s co-writer (together with Alisar Hasan).
The film is Fayyad’s most recent documentary. The film’s brief on IMDb reads: “Amidst air strikes and bombings, a group of female doctors in Ghouta, Syria struggle with systemic sexism while trying to care for the injured using limited resources.”
The Cave has already won nine awards at numerous international festivals, including: Grolsch People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival 2019; an Audience Award and Harrell Award - Special Mention at the Camden International Film Festival 2019; and the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards 2019 for Best Director and the Most Compelling Living Subject of a Documentary.
During the Aswan International Film Festival, The Cave will be screened outside the official competition.

Directed by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov, Honeyland sheds light on the last female bee-hunter in Europe who "must save the bees and return the natural balance in Honeyland, when a family of nomadic beekeepers invade her land and threaten her livelihood," reads the film's synopsis on IMDb.
The film already won almost 30 awards at numerous international festivals, among them: Most Compelling Living Subject of a Documentary and Best First Documentary Feature at the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards; Best Cinematography, Best Director and Best Feature at the International Documentary Association (USA); the Golden Gateway Award at the Mumbai Film Festival; the Best Non-Fiction Film at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards; a special jury prize for Documentary Feature at the Sarasota Film Festival, to name but a few.
Apart from its Oscars nod, Honeyland has been also nominated for 40 other international awards.
In Aswan, the film will be screened outside the main competition.

Short animated film Dcera (Daughter) is directed by Daria Kashcheeva, also known for To Accept (2017) and Show Jana Krause (2010).
"The bond between a father and a daughter is imperiled by matters that go unspoken and hurts that are slow to heal." read the synopsis on IMDb.
The film has won Best Cinematography Award at the Contact: International Student Film Festival; jury awards for Best Short Animation Film at the Rome Independent Film Festival; and was awarded at the Student Academy Awards (USA).
Among several nominations, Daughter competed at the Sundance Film Festival in the Best Short Film category.
The film will be screened within the official competition of the Aswan International Women Film Festival.
In its 4th edition, the Aswan festival will take place between 10 and 15 February.
The festival focuses on women issues and featured women in the film field.
Jury members are mainly women. The festival's competition for short films includes Egyptian actress Bushra as well as Swiss actress Ronit Hasson and Nigerian film director and producer Mildred Okwo.
The jury of the festival's main competition for feature films will include Egyptian actress Menna Shalaby, Dutch filmmaker Mijke de Jong, Tunisian actress Souhir Bin Amara, Romanian producer Alex Theodorsko and Filipino filmmaker Khavn de la Cruz.
