Egyptian filmmaker Amir Ramses and production company Red Star Productions released the teaser of the director’s upcoming film The Curfew (Hazr Tagawol) on YouTube and Vimeo.

The events of the film take place on 14 August 2013 during the time of the curfew, unveiling the emotions of the film's characters resulting from unusual circumstances as they interact in one location.

“The film has a social, not a political, context,” Ramses told Ahram Online, adding that he released the teaser now since “the general mood we find ourselves in now is similar to the one presented in the film.”

The film, written and directed by Ramses, stars Mahmoud El-Leithy, Amina Khalil, Elham Shahin, and Ahmed Magdy, among others.

Ramses had earlier planned to release the film in the summer and to screen it in festivals.

“With everything being put on hold, I am not sure when the film will see the light, hopefully soon,” Ramses reflected on the general shutdown of the cultural stage and film festivals being postponed.

Born in 1979, Ramses’ works include the films Kashf Hesab (2007), Cairo Time (2014), the Jews of Egypt (2013, a documentary) and its sequel Jews of Egypt: The End of a Journey (2014), and Khanat El-Yak (2015).

Active in a variety of cinematic projects, Ramses is also the artistic director of the Gouna International Film Festival.
