Egyptian 'Heart, You Deserve That!' wins Best Short Film Award at 10th Malmo Arab Film Festival

Egyptian short film 'Heart, You Deserve That!' was announced among the winners of the 10th Malmo Arab Film Festival.

Getting its international premiere at Malmo the 29-minute film won the Best Short Film Award.

According to the synopsis released by the festival, 'Heart, You Deserve That!' is "a film about the social pressure that unmarried women over thirty face. The director, who is also 35 and a single woman, conducts interviews from a car during a 30-minute long journey, meeting women in their mid-thirties who did not get married representing different opinions on the topic."

The film is written and directed by Lamia Idriss, who also stars in the movie alongside Mamdouh Idriss, Layla Youssef, Rana Masoud, and Aliaa Dogheim.

Heart, You Deserve That! is Idriss's graduation film from Cinedelta Programme, a one-year documentary film education programme for students. The film has also been selected to screen in the Silicon Valley African Film Festival.

The Arab Malmo Film Festival took place between 8 and 13 October.

Another Egyptian film titled When We're Born  directed by Tamer Ezzat won two major awards: best actor for Mohamed Hatem and best screenplay for Nadine Shams.
