Waleed Seif, head of this year's Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, said Saturday that the 28th edition of the festival, to be held from 12 to 19 September, will feature strong participation by Turkish films and works about the Syrian revolution and others on the theme of human rights. This year’s festival will also include a category for experimental films, he said.
Seif added in a press conference Saturday that the previous session of the festival was held in dire circumstances, in light of the lawlessness and unrest that preceded presidential elections. He underlined that the Alexandria Film Festival was particularly affected, as it typically receives direct support from the Ministry of Finance, channeled through the Ministry of Culture. The festival head revealed that this year’s budget reaches over LE2 million.
Seif said that the theme this year was "Human Dignity," with the festival aiming to gather substantial films that enhance the intellectual life of ordinary citizens through showcasing a range of realities played out in Algerian or Turkish drama, or in films about the Syrian revolution.
Seif said that there are 14 films participating in the international competition, and 60 films participating in the official festival sections, with 19 films competing in the digital film competition.
