Marking the ten-year anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq, Iraqi artist and winner of the New Art Exchange Prize in Nottingham Satta Hashem will open his latest arts exhibition entitled 'In Conflict: Reflections on the Constant War in Iraq' on Saturday 12 January at the New Art Exchange gallery.

Introducing Hashem's works to the audience, the gallery's statement says: "Rugged, loose and chaotic, the aesthetic of a selection of Satta’s works describe the human experience of living through conflict. In this exhibition, such collections are juxtaposed against representations of the brutal, impartial and ordered nature of the weaponry at the heart of such settings. Collectively Satta’s practice captures the harshness of the topic of war, both objectively and as an immediate experience."

Born near Baghdad in 1959, Satta now lives and works in Leicester, UK.

'In Conflict Reflections on Constant War in Iraq' runs until 28 February.

Open daily from 9am-5pm except on Sundays
New Art Exchange, 39 - 41 Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham, UK
