Massar Egbari, or "Compulsory Detour" in English, released their first album, after many delays and much anticipation by their fans.

The album was set for release early 2013, and was finally released this week by their producers Film Clinic, the same production company of highly acclaimed film Microphone (2010) which followed independent arts and the underground music scene in Alexandria before the revolution. The film featured the band.

'Ekra'a El-Khabar' (Read the News) is named after one of the band's most popular songs speaking about the need many youth feel to immigrate for lack of employment opportunities in Egypt. The album is available in all major music retailers, along with Soot El-Qahira, major shopping malls, petrol stations, and a few bookstores such as Kotob Khan and Volume One.

Massar Egabri is made up of Hany El-Dakak (lead vocals and guitarist), Ayman Masoud (keyboards and piano), Mahmoud Siam (guitar), Ahmed Hafez (bass guitar) and Tamer Atallah (drums).

The band, which has played together for years in Alexandria and Cairo, boasts a unique sound, fusing rock and funk with oriental beats and melodies. Their lyrics tackle social issues, while their concerts – especially in Alexandria – often prompt audiences to chant anti-establishment slogans.

The first music video by Masar Egbari for the song Hawy was released several weeks ago on youtube.
