The Cairo Photo Slide Jam, a monthly initiative seeking to promote photography from Egypt, explore contemporary trends and address questions pertaining to the field, will hold its third session at Photopia on Friday 21 February.

Brainchild of Egyptian-British photographer Laura El-Tantawy, the "Jam" features a line-up of contemporary photographers from Egypt and beyond, who are invited to show their work to peers and audiences as discussions tackle the ideas and aesthetics behind the work.

Photographer David Degner, the Cairo Photo Slide Jam's guest curator for the month of February, has settled on the theme "Developing Photojournalism: fine art and commercial photography in Egypt."

"After an intense period of growth in Egypt's photojournalism community, we need to step back, change our perspective, and widen our view," reads the press release.

The participating photographers are Mohammed Ezz, Dominique Mauri, John Perkins, Heba Khalifa, Yasser Alwan, Mireille El Magrissy, Bryonne Dunne, Rena Effendi, and Myriam Abdelaziz.

The first edition of the Cairo Photo Slide Jam was held at Photopia on 14 December 2013 while the second session was hosted by the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC) headquarters in downtown Cairo on 23 January.
