New Indian ambassador to Egypt celebrates India’s 72nd Independence Day in Cairo

On the occasion of the 72nd Independence Day of India, ambassador of India to Egypt Rahul Kulshreshth led a flag hoisting ceremony on 15 August at the India House in Zamalek, Cairo.

The event was attended by members of the Indian community in Cairo as well as members of the Egypt-India Friendship Association.

Born on 24 February 1961, Ambassador Kulshreshth studied at Aligarh Muslim University and Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.

Kulshreshth joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1985 and served in different positions at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian embassies in Moscow, Thimphu, Yangon, and Islamabad.

Prior to his appointment as ambassador to Egypt, Kulshreshth was the Ambassador of India to Turkey.

The ambassador is married and has a daughter.

Former Indian ambassador to Egypt Sanjay Bhattacharyya and his wife Ranu Bhattacharyya hosted a farewell reception at the India House on 6 May.

Bhattacharyya concluded his activities in Cairo last May by inaugurating the Tagore Festival, which was held by the embassy from 3 to 7 May 2018. Bhattacharyya is now serving as India’s ambassador to Turkey.
