India’s embassy in Cairo celebrates World Hindi Day

The Embassy of India in Cairo celebrated World Hindi Day on Wednesday with an event at El-Gomhouria Theatre.

The event was attended by Indian Ambassador to Egypt Rahul Kulshreshth and a number of public figures, including Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy, former Assistant Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Egyptian-Indian Friendship Association (EIFA), members of the EIFA, Egyptian students and Indian community members.

The event featured musical and dance performances, in addition to poetry recitations by Egyptian students. The Indian community members also performed classical and Bollywood dances.

As part of the celebrations, the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) organised competitions divided into 15 categories, in which 150 Egyptian students participated. Winners were awarded with medals and certificates by Ambassador Kulshreshth and Ambassador Hegazy.

World Hindi Day is celebrated on 10 January every year, with the aim of promoting the Hindi language.
