Nabil Fahmy, the former foreign minister of Egypt and founding dean of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) at the American University in Cairo, has been selected as a member of the Supreme Advisory Council of the Beijing Forum - one of the most prominent gathering of international thinkers and practitioners in China.
The Beijing Forum has been held annually since 2004 on the general concept of 'Harmony of Civilisations and Prosperity for All.'
This year, it was held from 1 to 3 November under the theme 'The Changing World and the Future of Mankind.'
The Supreme Advisory Council is made up of pioneers and leaders who have served in government, international organisations, business and academia are committed to improving humanity.
Notably, Fahmy is the only participating member from the Middle East.
Also, the Japanese government is set to bestow Fahmy with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun of the First Degree on 6 November
The confirmation ceremony will be held on 6 November 2019, and Fahmy will be granted the prestigious decoration conferred by Emperor Naruhito of Japan.
This decoration is awarded to those who have advanced their fields, made significant achievements in international relations or the promotion of Japanese culture, or contributed to development in welfare or conservation.
