The 2019 sequel is one of Egypt's most successful films recently. The Blue Elephant ranked 6th on the most watched films on Netflix in Egypt this week.
Based on the novel by Ahmed Mourad, The Blue Elephant was a smash hit when it was released in Egypt in 2014. Directed by Marwan Hamed and starring Egyptian leading actors Karim Abdel Aziz, Nelly Karim and Hind Sabri, the film saw an equally successful sequel released in 2019.
According to IMDB, The Blue Elephant 2 focuses on "a meeting with a new inmate in the psychiatric hospital who flips Dr Yehia's life upside down; he prophesies that the death of his entire family is only three days away.”
The Blue Elephant 2 is the only Egyptian film to make it to the top-watched 20 list in the country this week.
Netflix launched in Egypt in 2016 reaching an estimate of 200,000 subscribers by 2019, according to data provided by the highly popular streaming service.
Most recently 'The Blue Elephant 2' opened Denmark's Aarhus Arab Film Festival which takes place between 2 and 7 October.
