Lebanese star Elissa launched on Wednesday the first of 12 episodes of a new weekly podcast show titled ' “Elissa - The Podcast” on the popular Music platform Anghami.

"With her deep and genuine character, Elissa decided to lead and become the first Arab artist to launch her own podcast," stated Anghami in a press release about the podcast "in which she describes stories about her life, her past and present, her experiences and most importantly her career."

Cancer survivor,  Elissa, who supports humanitarian and social causes such as mental health, women’s rights, freedom of speech, and anti-bullying, shares her thoughts and views on specific topics with the aim of inspiring and motivating listeners based on her own experiences.

“I never really left Anghami. I feel that this experience will bring me closer to people especially in these times of isolation and social distancing. Better days are coming, we will go back to singing our hearts out. We will connect again via Anghami and we will get to share our thoughts and beliefs with everyone around us,” Elissa said on her new project.

Anghami's co-founder & CEO Eddy Maroun stated that “Elissa’s opinion has always mattered as much as her music," praising her persona as one of the top influential figures locally and globally."

With 'Elissa: The Podcast', she becomes one of the very first Arab singers to pave the way for a growing podcast culture in the region.

Elissa, whose real name is Elissar Khoury, is among the best known and highest-selling female artists in the Arab world and received several music awards in her career, mostly for Arabic pop songs delivered in the Lebanese or Egyptian dialect.

Born in 1972 to a Syrian mother and a Lebanese father, Elissa studied political science at the Lebanese University, and at first viewed music as a side interest.

Her career in singing took off in 1992 after she won the silver medal in Studio Al-Fann, a Lebanese singing competition, becoming one of the famous names in the musical scene in a short period.

She became the first Lebanese singer to receive the World Music Award for Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist in 2005, winning twice again in 2006 and 2010.

Elissa, who sold 30 million albums throughout her career, collaborated with many well-known Arab and international musicians, such as Ragheb Alama, Chris de Burgh, Cheb Mami, Fadl Shaker and Tamer Hosny.
